After being a lawyer in many important civil rights' cases with the NAACP, Thurgood Marshall was appointed to be a U.S. Circuit Court Judge. The highest honor came when Thurgood Marshall was the appointed by President Johnson to the United States Supreme Court in 1967 and was the the first African-American Justice on the Court. With back, hip, heart and eye problems, Justice Marshall left the court in 1991.
